“basque FEST” potencia la actividad en Bilbao y consolida el atractivo turístico de la ciudad en Semana Santa

“Basque FEST 2015″ has served its purpose. Bilbao has been a lively, active and attractive city at Easter for tourists, residents and day trippers, who were able to choose from over 100 different proposals, including a full program of activities, offering concerts, food tasting of local products, Basque fashion and design, exhibitions of herri kirolak (Basque traditional sports), exhibitions, theatre fro children, street entertainment and countless more activities designed for all ages, with special attention to families.

“Basque FEST” Festival of Basque Culture and Avant-Garde, promoted by the Bilbao City Council, in collaboration with Biscay Provincial Council and the Basque Government, has celebrated its third edition, reinforcing the “pull” of Bilbao as “urban destination” for holidays, which mobilizes thousands of people, mostly from the state market. Hotel occupancy, according to data provided by the Association Destino Bilbao, has reached 88 percent of hotel places in 2-5 stars hotels. The tourist lodges in Bilbao, meanwhile, were nearly sold-out (95%) during the main days of Easter.

The number of visitors from the State who have visited the two offices of Bilbao Tourism, has been 6,658, while people from abroad have been 2,174. Among those coming from the State, the highest percentaje are those from Catalunya (21.20%), Madrid (20%) and Valencia (9.4%). Regarding the international market, data reveals that the highest number have come from France (22.3%), followed by Italy (10.8%) and the UK (9.2%).
