El nuevo Puente Frank Gehry une desde hoy la ribera de Deusto con la futura isla de Zorrotzaurre

Today was the opening of Frank Gehry Bridge, the fifteenth in our city, an infrastructure linking the future island of Zorrotzaurre with the Banks of Deusto.

The opening of Deusto Canal and the future island are the last major urban regeneration operation in Bilbao. Zorrotzaurre regeneration, whose urban area occupies a total area of nearly 838,781 square meters, will turn this former industrial area into the new lobby to Bilbao through the river, with a comprehensive and sustainable project supported by the prestigious Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, combining affordable housing, clean areas of business implementation, social and cultural facilities and ample areas for citizens’ enjoyment.

Besides, Frank Gehry Bridge is the proposed solution for future access to the island of Zorrotzaurre. It is designed with an innovative structural scheme so its visual presence be reduced. The bridge’s main technical complexity is that it has no intermediate support in the river. Its design will allow its complete integration into the new design of the island. It is designed as a ‘special’ new urban street space allowing full future development in the area.
