ART CITY

Bilbao's commitment to artistic expression is intimately tied to the shift in the model of urban and economic development.

Not only is the Guggenheim Museum able to attract the most sophisticated contemporary art shows, but both the Fine Arts Museum and Bilbao Arte Foundation have also displayed a spectacular renewal, promoting programmes to produce and disseminate art of all types.

BILBAO DESIGN

The concept of design is so wide and varied that sometimes the boundary between art and other artistic disciplines becomes very thin, or even non-existent.

Baldosas que reducen el CO2 en la Campa de los Ingleses

Location: Campa de los Ingleses (Abandoibarra)

Info & Photos: Trenza Metal Área

After fifteen years of rehabilitation, with the inauguration of the “Campa de los Ingleses” in Bilbao, it has concluded the project “Ría 2000″ of Abandoibarra’s modification, the former industrial park one of the city’s identities.

Inside this park of 24.580 square meters there is a 14.457 gardened landscaped , placed between the new tower of Iberdrola and the Guggenheim Museum. This project has been led by the equipment formed by Diana Balmori and RTN Architects.

The rehabilitation of the “Campa de los Ingleses” constitutes a new lung for the city thanks to the urban development transformation, the vegetation and the addition of GeoSilex® to the Ecosit KlimCO tiles that the company Hnos. Eguskiza of the UGP Group (pioneer in the employment of this material) has supplied for the pedestrian routes that cross this park. This additive (GeoSilex®), proceeds entirely from industrial residues, it provides to the pavements with the environmental CO2 absorption capabilities, reducing therefore the carbon footprint of the pavement.

This new material patented just one year ago under the name GeoSilex®, has been developed by Geosilex Trenza Metal S.L. along with the University of Granada, is commercialized in the shape of an additive mixture for concretes and is added in proportions between 3 and 10 % of the weight of the concrete.

One square meter of pavement containing 8 % of GeoSilex®, would be able to collect, during the useful life of the tile, the carbon dioxide contained in 5.000 cubic meters of air.
