AzPlay 2015. VI International Festival of Independent Games

Azkuna Zentroa. From November 26, 2015 to December 1, 2015

Azkuna Zentroa has set up the 6th edition of the International Festival of Independent Games under the new name of: AzPlay.

AzPlay (previously hóPLAY) has become consolidated as an international reference for the promotion of new works, and has granted awards every year to the most original, most creative and innovative independent videogames at the time. Over 500 projects from the 5 continents have been received in these 6 years and over 175,000 euros in awards have been given out.

This year, AzPlay will be taking place in the Bilbao Bizkaia Design Week which will be held at the end of November, and will be the “Indie” section of the Fun&Serious Game Festival, to complement this event with international fame. Its presence at the Festival will be a springboard for Basque companies, whose main characteristic is that of being independent.


158 projects have signed up for the sixth edition of AzPlay, the International Festival of VideoGames, via web before 30th September, 2015.

The videogames are from 30 countries dotted over the 5 continents: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the US, Spain, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Poland and Republic of Argentina. Half the projects are from Spain, 14 of which have been presented by Basque developers.

A jury made up of leading figures from the world of “Indie” videogames, specialized media, industry and academics have judged these videogames, and the list of finalists has been published on 31st October. The final decision will be announced at the Award Gala on 27th November. Five awards with a monetary value of 5,000 euros each will be awarded to the following Competition Categories: best original idea, best creative design, best sound-music, best playability, and best Basque videogame.
