Bilbao becomes the World Capital of Culture between March 18-20

In the coming days Bilbao will turn into the World Capital of Culture in the hand of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). Between March 18-20 AlhóndigaBilbao will host the first ‘Summit of Culture’ of UCLG, an unprecedented event internationally to promote knowledge sharing and networking of cities and local governments, based on good practices and sustainable development, and where cities, civil society and international organizations will meet.

The importance of culture in the Urban Transformation of Bilbao, symbolized by the Guggenheim Museum and driven by the launch by the cultural policy in these last two decades have consolidated Bilbao as an international referent and have been the key to her appointment to host the Summit.

250 global leaders and international experts will participate in the meeting. Mayors and representatives of cities like Dakar, Mexico, Barcelona, ​​Montreal, Buenos Aires and Istanbul, together with experts and activists from the likes of Farida Shaheed, Simon Brault, Peter Rorvik, Jyoti Hosagrahar, Lucina Jiménez or Seo Myung-sook are just some of the highlights.
